Whew, the much needed and anticipated long weekend has arrived at last!! It must be one of the greatest joys in life to be able to leisurely put together a warm breakfast of eggs on toast with a steaming mug of coffee accompanied by a novel in hand… What simple pleasures the life of a working person involves XD

Ever since Anzac weekend, when it was highly recommended to me by our long-time family friends Anne and Brian, the idea of seeing this movie has been playing on my mind. And yesterday I thought – why on earth not? It has been a hectic few weeks at work, the temperature is dropping by the day, and huddling up in the calming darkness of the movies for a couple of hours with a cup of hot chocolate would serve as a fitting reward, a welcoming escape from the everyday pressures and a proper chance to unwind especially after having to work Saturday morning.

最近真的很明顯的注意到晝日走得越來越倉促，夜晚也變得越來越依戀。每天早上起床打開窗簾的一剎那不再是看到一半沐浴在晨曦下充滿朝氣的城市，而是在黯淡朦朧的天色下還在跟夜晚含情脈脈的路燈。雖然一方面期待着七月假期的到來，但又還是會忍不住感嘆夏天的結束~ 尤其想到之後每天起床會越來越慵懶痛苦，還有之後好幾個月下班都要摸黑回家的日子就多少有點失落。但應該也是得熬過漫長的冬天才會更期待下一個夏天的到來吧～

The waves were angry as they crashed dramatically over the rusty iron chains along Rocks Road yesterday, sending up sprays of foam that showered over the road like tiny white bullets. My windscreen wipers worked ferociously as I drove directly into the firing range, and after a while I could no longer tell if they were fighting forces from the sea or the sky, for rain was also pelting down in sheets of needles, mingling with the waves to form a soundless icy web that enveloped my little cocoon of safety in the car.

Nelson Anniversary Day began with a dark and menacing cloud draped over the city, covering the top of the houses with a fine mist of soft grey. Needless to say, the rain followed soon after – the pitter-patter of droplets striking the window panes as I sipped on my tea and luxuriated in the joy of not going to work had a startlingly calming quality, silencing the orchestras of cicadas and other music of Summer that would normally have struck up early in the morning.

哎呀~ 一轉眼又到了聖誕節啦! 想到去年的聖誕節不但要上班（...但其實也只是坐在辦公桌google一整天歷史至今未解開的驚悚案件 囧), 走進職員室很興奮的跟副校長說 “聖誕快樂！” 後迎來的也是一煞那茫然的表情跟禮貌性的微笑以及一聲 “啊 說得也是”。也因此今年回到鳥國的第一個聖誕節讓我更加享受並感恩有四處響起的聖誕歌，還有同事以及顧客間無時無刻傳來的半開玩笑的抱怨 ("噢 今年到底要給奧利佛什麼呢？之前每年都可以給他樂高 但今年他媽媽說實在太多了!" 還有 "天啊 我正慢慢的被這些聖誕歌折磨到死。"... XD) 果然西方國家的聖誕節雖然也多少被商業化，但還是少不了充斥大街小巷的歡樂節慶氣氛啊！:) 尤其在這裡聖誕節的到來也象徵著夏天的開始 - 能天天看著這陽光小鎮名副其實的越來越溫暖以及熱鬧，聽著小孩子充滿期待的笑聲，吃著色彩繽紛的夏季莓果... 實在是讓人不心情愉快也難 (還有至少Richmond Mall的聖誕老公公比Karori Mall的幸福多了 - 有閃閃發光的寶座還有比較多肯賞臉的小孩 XDD)

One of the best things about being back in Nelson is the easy access to the wide range of arty films that I have within a short ten-minute drive from home. This afternoon I made another wise decision to see one of these at the local cinema, and it left me wanting to smile and snort and cry all at the same time.
